GTA 5 came out more than a decade ago, and now Rockstar has played its last big card before the sequel arrives. The final trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI is out, and fans hit replay so many times that it overtook the lifetime view count of the GTA 5 launch trailer before the weekend was over.

Official GTA VI launch trailer, published by Rockstar Games on YouTube
The video appeared on Rockstar's YouTube channel on October 15, 2026, five weeks ahead of release. It is short, around a minute and a half, and Rockstar says every shot comes straight from the game running on a PS5.
Rather than showing off the map, it zooms in on the couple at the heart of the story. Jason, now wearing his hair long, looks back on how rough life became once his army days were over. Lucia has an electronic tag strapped around her ankle and is not convinced things will end well for them. Rockstar's plot summary hints at a heist that falls apart and pulls the pair into a far bigger criminal scheme reaching every corner of Leonida, the game's fictional Florida.
Both earlier GTA 6 trailers were cut to older songs Rockstar licensed: a Tom Petty classic in the first and a Pointer Sisters hit in the second. For the final one, the studio picked fresh material. "Flower in a Hurricane" was made by Justice, the French electronic duo writing the game's score, together with guests SZA, Tame Impala and the Australian band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
To put this into context: the GTA 5 launch trailer went online in 2013, back in the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, and has gathered roughly 34 million views on Rockstar's channel since then. GTA 6 left that number behind in about three days. Spread evenly, that is more than 170 people pressing play every single second.
Fans had fun in the comments too. Many top replies remembered everyone who had joked they would never live long enough to play GTA 6, while others celebrated that the endless "before GTA 6" jokes are finally about to retire.
Players have been able to pre-order since June 25, 2026, and the total keeps climbing every week. The regular version costs $80, while the Ultimate Edition goes for $99.99. Industry analysts believe Rockstar spent over a billion dollars developing it, a budget no other game is known to have reached.
